8 Exercise Influencers To Help You Get Moving & Improve Your Mood At Home

strong woman standing

Let’s face it: global pandemics can be especially challenging to your mental health. Whether you are a front-line essential worker or are social distancing at home, you are likely experiencing increased stress. Our first recommendation, of course, is to increase your carb intake to help boost serotonin to improve your mood. However, another commonly practiced self-care behavior for reducing anxiety and depression is exercise. So many of us know that exercise is good for our mood, but you may still be struggling to get started. Enter social media exercise influencers.

Free, Engaging Workout Videos, Motivation & Inspiration

From the convenience of your own living room or backyard, online personal trainers offer tons of free videos and workout guides to help motivate you. Keep in mind that not all well-known social media influencers in the exercise field are created equal. Anyone can open a social media account so check qualifications before starting a workout. Also, while your friend may love a certain fitness trainer with online videos, that does not necessarily mean that you will feel the same way. Just like in live, in-person workout classes, styles, approaches and personalities vary widely. The goal is to find someone or a handful of individuals who inspire you to exercise, even when you may not want to.

The Many Benefits Of Exercise, Beyond Mood

In addition to boosting feelings of well-being, exercise has been shown to prevent heart diseases, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, obesity, arthritis, cancer, and maintaining and improving musculoskeletal health. That said, we recommend that you check with your physician before starting any exercise regimen.

Here are 8 social media influencers to check out:

Fitness Blender (IG & YouTube: @FitnessBlender, FB: @FitnessBlender.com)

There’s a reason why Kelli and Daniel Segars’ new daily subscribers doubled in the first five days after Covid-19 was declared a Pandemic. Certainly, there was an increased demand for at-home workouts, but FitnessBlender was attractive to many due to their varied and robust content. Check out one of their 800+ free videos

Amanda Bisk (FB, IG, YouTube: @AmandaBisk)

Amanda Bisk is a former Australian pole vaulter who shares daily yoga, fitness inspiration, routines, workouts and more. She is also an exercise physiologist and yoga teacher.

Yoga Practice (IG:@YogaPractice)

Sticking with the theme of yoga, @yogapractice posts daily yoga videos, tutorials and inspiration, which are great, whether you are a complete beginner or a self-proclaimed yogi.

Alexia Clark (FB, IG, YouTube: @AlexiaClark)

Alexia Clark is a certified personal trainer and fitness nutrition specialist who believes that variety is the spice of life and promises followers that they will never be bored by a workout again.

The Betty Rocker (FB, IG, YouTube: @TheBettyRocker)

Bree Argetsinger is a C.H.E.K. (Corrective Exercise and High-performance Kinesiology) certified Exercise Coach, an ISSA (International Sports Sciences Association) certified fitness nutrition practitioner, and a self-proclaimed “all-around fitness motivator and champion of personal growth.”

SugarySixPack (FB, IG, YouTube: @SugarySixPack)

Niki of Sugary Six Pack is a Certified Personal Trainer, Pre & Post-Natal Specialist, which brings a unique perspective for mom viewers. She offers varied at-home workouts with a big smile on her face. She also loves eating potatoes, which is something we can get behind.

FunWithFit (IG: @FunWithFit)

Ebonny Fowler is one of our favorite fitness influencers because she has an engaging and warm personality. Plus, we are really amused by her incorporation of household items (her children, an Easter egg basket, and laundry detergent are some recent examples) into her workouts.

Cindy Yu Fitness (FB, IG, YouTube: @Cindyyufitness)

If you are looking for a solid combination of strength, endurance, agility and flexibility, Cindy is your gal. She’s a certified Personal trainer, group fitness instructor, wife and mom of three boys, who loves the outdoors. Her videos are often filmed outside, in her backyard, at a park or at the beach. She also frequently incorporates High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and TRX.

We wish you and your family the best of health and hope this list will inspire you to stay active during this challenging time.
